Review of It's Complicated (2009) by Cameron F — 07 Jun 2012
It's Complicated, actually isn't complicated at all. It's rom-com fare as usual and we all know how it's going to end.
What sets it apart from most of the competition is its fine cast. Although I'm not a fan of Meryl Streep, she's a good actress, even in rather mediocre films like this. Alec Baldwin was awesome, and he made it difficult for me to root against him, while the children and their daughter's fiancee (John Krasinski shows leading potential) are likable as well. Only Steve Martin, I found a bit.
In the experienced hands of writer/director Nancy Meyers It's Complicated makes a decent midmorning-hangover-recovering-film. For me, it's limited to this purpose though. As much as I enjoyed certain scenes and the (unexpected) above-average acting it's pretty much pointless (which would be the more appropriate title for the film anyways.
