Review of It's Alive III: Island of the Alive (1987) by Shawn W — 06 Oct 2010
Oh gracious Mary! Mother of the lord! This was a horrible part 3! Acting= sack of rotten assholes! I shouldn't expect much from a hokey ass B-movie, but oh my gosh! This was honestly one of the biggest laugh riot cheese fests I have ever encountered.
So the courts declare the "Jarvis" baby an abomination and unfit for human society, so it as well as four or five other evil mutant babies are sent to a faraway tropical island where they are to fend for their own lives and survive off of the vegetation, or the overzealous scuba-diver that tries to explore the island every now and then.
Or the rich hunters that have heard about the evil infants and want to come hunt and kill one with their rifles! Pretty great campy cheese, but it was just so god awful that I almost just couldn't wait for it to end.
The most unbearable scenes are the scenes of the older mutants that are a family or some shit. They aren't just babies anymore, after time they grow and reproduce on their own, its some terrible 80's cheese.
After taking over the ship on the faraway island and horrendously killing everybody on board, the evil mutant family try to make their way back to the United States to locate the original mother or some shit (Karen Black) who puts on a pretty awful performance.
Overall the series just ended up bombing straight into the depths of hell after the retched part 2. Part one seemed to be the only one with any real solid story base or creepy factor. The other two just kind of exist solely to show washed up stop-motion views of the evil tykes and this part three just went too overboard by making them full blown monsters, it evolves out of the realm of evil mutant babies to just evil mutant monsters.
Basically the series dies here. Well, there is a remake of the original which is my next watch. Lord will I be glad when these are over, but hell, they are definitely good for Halloween time.
