Review of It's Alive (1974) by Ian B — 16 Sep 2008
The best mutant/killer baby movie you'll see in your life! It's Alive is a pretty damn weird movie, even for today's audiences. The premise of a mutant/killer baby movie sounds like it would be overly goofy, but It's Alive somehow manages to be creepy and even a little "realistic".
While I liked the story, performances and the first half of the movie, things kinda went downhill towards the end. It just got slow and repetitive, with the whole "baby manhunt", when it could have gone in so many better directions.
Only Larry Cohen's imaginative direction and a few creepy moments keep things interesting. A well made film, but a little disappointing when you think of how much better it could've been under a great writer/director like Cohen.
