Review of It's a Wonderful Life (1946) by Gordon H — 14 Dec 2015
A Christmas Classic!
Now among the most popular American films of all time, Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who constantly gives up his own dreams to help others realize theirs. But at a crucial moment in his life, when all seems lost and he has reached the end of his rope, an angel helps him to see what the world would be like had he never been born.
What can I possibly say about this wonderful family film that hasn't already been said? Originally released on Christmas Day in 1946, It's A Wonderful Life wasn't a huge box office hit. It wasn't until the 1980s when it aired on television stations annually throughout the country during December that it became the Christmas Classic it is today. I love this movie! I love the story it tells and the message it gives! In the words of one of my favorite critics, Joel Siegel, this is the kind of movie that brings out the tears!
