Review of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) by Nat M — 02 Mar 2008
"It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" represents everything that is great about comedy in films. It has everything, from the tiny to the gargantuan. Every scene makes me laugh out loud, most notably the insane stunts that they pull off throughout the entire thing.
Back when they made this, they actually did the shit that you see in the movie, so it looks better than most SFX things they do now. All of the actors are brilliant, and the cameos are also hilarious.
Most importantly, I love that it has such a cinematic feel. A beautiful opening and closing score, an intermission, and filmed in cinerama crazyness (three projectors required to screen it in its full glory).
It's one of the few "epic" comedy films out there, but it is well worth the length.
