Review of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) by Mr. J — 22 Jul 2008
For me, the perfect movie. It combines directorial ambition (from Stanley Kramer???) with a need to isolate the small moment within the big canvas. All of this is my way of saying that Mad4 is the biggest slapstick movie you'll ever see, an almost 3 hour collection of almost every funny person in the world at the time or, if you prefer (and I do) the "Lawrence of Arabia" of comedy.
Ironically, for me, this film is Stanley Kramer's only "message movie" that works.
