Review of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) by Daniel T — 15 Aug 2013
Hilarious-the film is an epic adventure/comedy with an all-star cast. It's also packed with loads cameos. Some of which include: Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, Joe E. Brown, and the Three Stooges.
Unlike films today, where it's suspected an all-star cast would probably destroy a film because most of the budget is spent on actors, it's the cast which makes this film.
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is the story of a group of strangers who meet in the aftermath of a automobile accident. The gentleman involved in the accident (who lay dying next to his vehicle) informs the group he's hidden a large sum of money in a location, which is far, but not too far away for an epic adventure to commence.
This is great storytelling because although the plot is pretty far fetched, it's not too "out there" for you to believe it couldn't happen-even though it probably couldn't.
