Review of It's a Free World... (2007) by John C — 10 Jan 2008
Tells the story of a single mother who exploits illegal immigrants (for casual labour) in order to get out of her own misery. It's a free world, indeed. A very political film about cheap labour, at the core of British (and Western European) economy.
Complex, hard, but always captivating. Loach succeeds in making a difficult subject into a film that will still appeal to a large audience. Rare. Must see.
