Review of It's a Boy Girl Thing (2006) by Christopher C — 20 Jul 2010
:rotten: :rotten: (out of four).
Not as bad as expected, but the body switching genre lost its appeal not too long after the stars of It's a Boy Girl Thing were born..
.
Samaire Armstrong and Kevin Zegers play rival high school students who live next door to each other. She is the sensitive, cute Yale-bound scholar, and he's the handsome, shallow, jock. They don't get along and one day following a trip to a museum statue, they find themselves in each other's bodies..
.
The usual moments of shock and self-body discovery ensue. The biggest problem is that this brings little to this tired story that we haven't seen before. I can't help wondering why the movie maker's are so enchanted with this idea..
.
As far as the performances go Samaire Armstrong is appealing enough and tries her best, though she's in a bit over her head. Kevin Zegers, who was good in The Jane Austin Book Club and, outstanding in Transamerica, comes off best since he is able to capture the essence of her soul the best..
.
I grant that this film could have been far worse. Had it not been for the sincere performances and peppy pace, it would have been..
