Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Emily D — 02 Jan 2010
This is a rock lovers dream documentary. Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge discuss music in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere--pure magic. Interspersed with this meeting are personally narrated histories, stories and tours by each player touching on their musical process from band formation to recording methods.
The individuality of each musician, how they attack music, how they respect a guitar, even their own personal take on strings, makes one appreciate music as a craft much more. I came away particularly impressed with The Edge's deep obsession and commitment to creating a "clean" sound.
(I also came away thinking Jack White is a bit of a pompous ass, but you win some, you lose some!) It is no surprise that Jimmy Page is the ultimate stand-out; watching Jack White and The Edge attempt to contain their excitement as Page plays the opening to "Whole Lotta Love" gives you shivers of jealousy.
If this is as close I'll ever come to being a fly on the wall near Jimmy Page, I'll take it. Music Lovers: don't miss this!
