Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Taylor S — 06 Jan 2010
As a documentary, it was pretty rambling and did not provide any great insights into the guitar. But when you have three generations of great rock guitarists in Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White jamming together and separately that doesn't seem to matter much.
The strongest part of the movie is tracing the roots of the artists, going back to where they began (such as The Edge in a classroom after answering a note by Larry Mullen to start a band) and seeing video from their beginnings.
There are some great moments, such as listening to The Edge laying the basic guitar tracks for some of their biggest hits or how Jack White can seemingly create music out of anything with strings. I loved the jam session with the three artists, but they needed much more time with the three musician together talking about the guitar.
