Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Popi P — 07 Aug 2010
The film itself is OK, if a bit aimless. My biggest problem with it is the selection of the two more modern guitar players. The Edge and Jack White do not belong in the same building with Jimmy Page as musicians go.
Jack White does some interesting things, but for him the only thing that matters is that you STRUGGLE for some stupid reason. He has to play crappy instruments in order to make him happy with the results, a bit of a psycho, and not in a good creative way.
The record he plays as his "favorite song" is a big clue, its an old blues man singing and clapping and that's IT! Not one instrument in the entire song, unreal. As for The Edge, his name is a clue that he spends more time trying to be cool than he does actually working on being a guitarist.
All he does is run a guitar through 5 or 10 or 20 processors so that it sounds cool coming out the other end. What a staggering talent, he can plug things in! He might as well play the keyboards (not meant in disrepect) since all he cares about is synthesized effects.
I would bet you that 90% of all professional guitar players are better at actually playing a guitar than he is, makes me ill that he is in this movie. You can see my point when Jimmy finally does actually demonstrate his amazing skills on his axe while Jack and The sit there almost dumbfounded and you can tell they are thinking to themselves "holy crap do I suck on guitar compared to him.
" This movie is worth watching for the one guy that deserves to be in it, but irritating at the same time because of the other two wannabes.
