Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Christopher T — 16 Sep 2009
If I could give this movie six stars, I would. If you love music (especially the guitar), and especially if you know of one or more of these guitar players, you'll be thrilled by this.
I sat on the edge of my seat for every part, especially as each player deconstructred some of his most well-known riffs and songs; more so when they played those for each otehr. I was blown away by the respect that all three showed each other, but especially the awe on White and Edge's face as they saw an aging and relatively frail Page play the classic riff from Whole Lotta Love.
The filmmaker put these three men together - each of them approaching the instrument very differently - and then let the story breathe. Nothing was forced, the pacing is easy,.
I wasn't a fan of Jack White before watching this movie; I respect him more now, though it'll be interesting to see how he changes as he ages.
One more thought: On the day, hopefully far in the future, that I hear of Jimmy Page's passing, I'm calling in sick to work, putting this DVD on, grabbing a bottle of whiskey, and paying my respects along with this profound film.
I came away wanting to spend the rest of my life being a better musician, and hoping that I have something in my life as fulfilling as these men have found their art.
