Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Jeffrey D — 09 Jun 2011
I was a bit disappointed by this documentary. I thought that it would be a pretty even split between individual interviews with Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White, and excerpts from their group session. At least that's what the trailer promised. Instead, we get 95% individual segments with only very little group time. While I really enjoyed Jimmy Page's and Jack White parts, I felt like The Edge's fell a bit flat, preachy, and boring. Overall, all of the individual parts went on way too long and should have been shortened for more group time. The few parts that we see really are the highlight of the film.
However, I do recommend that you rent this documentary. Do no watch it on TV on in a theater. If you buy/rent the DVD you get extra scenes featuring the three guitarists playing "Kashmir", "Seven Nation Army", as well as more from their group session. As much as I love these guitarists and the music they make, I feel that this was a bit of a let down.
