Review of It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine. (2007) by John F — 26 Nov 2007
This is brilliant on nine billion different levels. The script was written by a severely disabled man who spent his life in an institution. It can be viewed as a direct line into his fantasies, which, in a very immediate sense, involve this dude getting fucked on film by porn stars before he dies.
Crispin Glover and his colleague designed the look and feel using lush colors and sparse rooms with sleezy, 1970's furniture to create a mood not unlike an avant-garde porno. The sets are cut away, to give the appearance of a stylized play, which meshes perfectly with the naive dialogue.
The way they chose to treat the script makes the difference between what could have been a horrid Pink Flamingos-esque piece of trash and what is, instead, a heartbreakingly beautiful film.
