Review of It Happened One Night (1958) by Pamela B — 15 Feb 2009
Definitely an escapist depression-era comedy where the wealthy (Colbert) must rely on the journalist (Gable) who just lost his job (though of course it goes both ways). Old it may be, but the situational comedy is as witty and sharp as anything and the two star vehicles create great comedic tension.
With the exception of the ending, this movie still stays above cliche while still being true to the time period.
