Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Fraser B — 03 Feb 2009
I was bullied into watching this by a moaning, whining, romcom-obsessed mother who insisted that I absolutely had to see this. It's mildly amusing in places, sure, but by fuck it's full of annoying characters, and generally has nothing to make it worth recommending to anybody who is less obsessed with vintage romantic comedies than my mother (which I imagine rules out anybody reading this, including myself.
Alas, too little, too late for me). That all said, it's not a bad film by any means, it's just that I've seen so many variations on this formula over the years that I think most of the films enduring charm is lost on me.
