Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by John S — 03 Feb 2012

There's no taking away of this films sheer influence, importance, and iconicity. But I don't see it as timeless. Not at all. The humor, the central plot, and almost everything about it feels dated.

I didn't find the main story interesting. It's hard to ignore the fact that this is the film that sparked the countless others that imitated it, and as a result, the story doesn't captivate.

The leads are alright, but I personally don't like Clark Gable, so that may be why I wasn't interested. Also, I hated the last few minutes of the film. The writing was more annoying than interesting, not to mention entertaining.

I'm giving it a 60 out of respect.
