Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Lauren F — 15 Mar 2010

The movie, It happened One Night (1934) directed by Frank Capra is now one of my favorite movies from the 30's. I really enjoyed the acting by Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert well as the plot. I was able to really get into the movie and forget I was in film class! The romantic comedy genre kept me interested and put me in a good mood.

The movie started somewhat similar to my favorite movie Overboard (1987) staring Goldie Hawn. The typical rich girl who's tired of her cliché life decides to jump over into the ocean and runway; except in Overboard, the actress falls overboard.

She runs into a man who she believes isn't up to her standards, however, she ends up falling in love with him. The scenario is a recycled movie plot, yet it seems to never get old, everyone movie puts its own unique twist on it.

The relationship between the main characters, Ann and Peter is a very comical one from the start. They have a fun and entertaining connection between one another. I found their acting amusing and easy to relate to.

I loved how Peter kept his love for Ann a secret and was so modest and witty. He can play a serious game of hard to get, as well as Ann. The two of them were perfect for each other despite their extreme differences, which brought them together.

The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that it was predictable, but still kept me interested. This movie could be remade today and it would be successful. I really enjoyed this film and I would watch it again and recommend it to anyone.

The movies we watch in this class are a hundred times better than the ones we watched in film analysis. I can't believe how much more I enjoy classic films now; it completely changed my opinion.
