Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Rob L — 15 Jul 2011
Fabulous entertainment from 1934, this is the kind of movie that made the Hollywood name - an endlessly inventive depiction of America in a byone era and containing wonderful performances from Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. The wisecracking is rich indeed, as are the array of spectacular set pieces - not the least the arrival of a light plane for a wedding at a time when this form of transport will still have seemed novel.
The road trip from Miami to New York is very well handled - if only the occupants of greyhound buses were ready to burst into song these days! A classic that deserves the smorgasbord of oscars thrust upon it.
