Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Jacob H — 02 Jul 2010
It Happened One Night is truly a comedy for the ages, and is a strong contender for the definitive romantic comedy. Frank Capra's film is infectiously cute, and the witty screenplay is more intelligent than some of Capra's other comedic ventures.
Clark Gable has a sort of rugged charm to his character of reporter Peter Warne, who finds himself stuck babysitting the spoiled young-adult daughter of a Wall Street tycoon, Ellie Andrews--played here by the utterly magnetic Claudette Colbert.
So many scenes in this film are immediately recognizable from their classic quality, and the aforementioned scenes also manage to be side-splittingly funny. This film is certainly one to treasure, and provides an immense about of joy for the whole family.
