Review of It Follows (2015) by Thom B — 15 Aug 2017
It Follows is obviously heavily influenced by horrors films of the 70's and 80's, this is most evident in the filming style, settings and the soundtrack. The concept behind the film is very odd and on paper sounds ridiculous almost like it should be a horror comedy but this isn't what makes the film memorable, it's the build up of tension and the atmosphere created.
It's a simple idea, that a stranger might suddenly start to follow you and should they catch up with you then you're a goner. It promotes a sense of paranoia throughout the film as the central characters are constantly looking over their shoulders, wondering if someone is really following them or it is just their imagination.
A great way to build a creepy atmosphere for a film, even if the concept of why these people are being followed is a little strange.
