Review of It Follows (2015) by Scarefan — 08 Jun 2015
It Follows does not deserve such a high rating. You know when you're watching a movie and you keep telling yourself it'll get better (it will, it will, it must!) and then it just doesn't.... Well that's this one all over.
It started out ok, I was slightly intrigued after the first death, but then I found myself screaming internally just get on with it! I've heard this film compared positively to Halloween, which I find insane.
Michael Myers is, and will always be, an iconic slasher. What even is this thing that follows these teens around, other than completely forgettable? We're given nothing to go on, no background or interesting info at all other than the guy she sleeps with telling her to have sex asap and pass it on like a disease.
YAWN! What's worse is that the thing takes the form of an old woman first, and they are really not very scary (apart from the old woman in the cafe in Legion... I did NOT like her.) and it moves at a pace of about 2 miles per hour, which is only ok if you're the big Mikey M and are carrying a bloody big knife.
Seriously, if you're after something scary give this one a miss. It's not even remotely creepy, and the music, which actually did put me in mind of Halloween, just grated on my nerves, which were already stretched thin.
It's definitely the sign of a bad movie when you wish the characters would just hurry up and die already.
