I watched this movie on the recommendation of a couple of sources because I wanted to see some good horror with my friend. Honestly, I have no clue how this movie has such a high score. If I could describe it with one word it would be "boring". There's a difference between a slow burn and just unnecessary padding. Half the dialogue I was left wondering what the point of putting it there was. At one point there was an aside that sounded like it might be a commentary on classism in America? But it's placement was so strange and added nothing.

At no point did they make any attempt to figure out this creature's limitations. Will uninterrupted water - lake, sea, ocean? - with no crossing hinder it? The pool scene implies it can swim, but can it swim across an ocean? For that matter, how fast does it walk? And it's obviously capable of more cognitively involved processes than walking- it throws rocks through windows and apparently recognizes a trap to electrocute it - what's stopping it from walking on transportation exactly? Other than it ruining this movie's "gimmick" of course.

I'm not really sure what's so apparently original about this thing. It falls into some pretty common horror movie cliches - from sex inviting in corruption/evil/whathaveyou, to the casual use of women's naked bodies for shock, to the head-desk worthy amount of plot-induced idiocy required of the protagonists to make this setup work.

I could've watched 3 Headed Shark Attack instead. At least that movie I know is SUPPOSED to be bad.
