Review of It Follows (2015) by Corbin R — 21 Jan 2016
Not worthy of its 97% rating, let me say that right off the bat. The main thing this film has going for it is the score and immense dread placed upon the characters which gives the audience this feeling of insomnia and constant apprehension.
The story leaves much to be desired and could use more exposition. I understand that modern horror is excessive with exposition but this takes that fear too far. The characters, although lacking exposition overall, are well built and stand on there own as believable characters which is a testament to the actors.
The nudity is tied with the sexual theme, but the excessive nudity is repugnant and off-putting to the integrity of the film and feels like the filmmaker put it in to appease the sexual cravings of the modern viewer.
With all the trashy horror movies being churned out today's this film deserves recognition for its homage and longing for horror to return to the John Carpenter roots and its original plotline. And this film may even deserve a repeat viewing, but this isn't one to find a place in your collection.
