Review of It Follows (2015) by Cinemadame . — 14 May 2016
Scary moments. Convincing cast. Effective and sometimes lovely cinematography. Love the old school touches like using color (red/pink) and objects (the ball) to signal trouble. But...why? Usually I have no trouble suspending disbelief and accepting the premise of a horror movie, but here I do.
What motivates the It of the title? Not clear. All of it seems a bit gimmicky; are the "rules" of the movie set up this way to make a parallel with sexually transmitted disease? Ok, but even that's a rough parallel.
What the are the physics rules that It follows--it looks like its just invisible (to most), though physical and capable of bleeding? Why should we care to figure it out?
