Review of It Follows (2015) by Sam N — 20 Jan 2018
Smart, subversive, and scary, It Follows is a refreshingly original horror flick that feels all too real despite its unlikely premise. Maika Monroe delivers an Oscar-worthy performance as Jay, a girl who gets infected with a sexually transmitted curse.
The script is expertly written and intelligently portrays the dynamic of teenage friendship and the awkwardness of crushes. On that note, Keir Gilchrist absolutely nails his portrayal of Jay's friend Paul who has a crush on her, and I can't remember the last time I related to a character THIS well.
Overall, this is a film that works on multiple levels and is basically guaranteed to scare most people. Just don't watch it if you're light-hearted or don't like scary movies.
