Review of It Follows (2015) by Alina A — 25 Sep 2015
This movie was truly astonishing. "It Follows" managed to create an entirely original idea (at least in film) and make it scare the shit out of you. The "It" is something we never quite understand, as the audience.
"It" is a primal force, that can take the shape of any person- and it is after you, if you've got the "disease" it wants. That "disease" is passed through sex- so yes, the entire film is based on the concept that sex can kill, which, although a little childish, works extremely well here.
Writer/director David Robert Mitchell brilliantly cast every cast member as a young-looking teen. It feels real- there's no summer camp, field trip, haunted house mumbo jumbo- it's just plain terror because, as far as anyone can tell, there's no way to stop this thing.
"It" keeps coming, and coming, and coming, regardless of how far you run. It is quite easily my favorite horror movie in recent memory and, I think, it will go down as one of the best of this generation.
