Review of It Follows (2015) by Marko Z — 10 Jul 2016
It's been called a throwback to the classic 1980's horror scene, a metaphor for sexually transmitted diseases, and by some, a goofy camp fest. And they're all right. This movie, like the original Wolf Man, takes place in a bizarre never never land, with modern vehicles and kids yet old technology like tvs and cloths.
The whole thing seems like a crazy fever dream, but therein lies the beauty. It's so bizarre yet so strangely compelling with long shots, great atmosphere, and the best cinematography I've seen in a horror movie in a long time, maybe even ever.
It's a fascinating combo of realism and unrealism that got plenty of people talking about it, and will continue to for some time.
