Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Luis G — 08 Apr 2018
This was an amazing experience.
An extremely intelligently written horror/thriller about people trying to survive in a post apocalyptic setting. It manages to explore a familiar concept and premise in a fresh exciting way.
It respects the viewer, leaving some details of the story out of view, without it being annoying or overly vague. It respects you enough to try and come to your own conclusions, and by doing so it leaves tons of room for discussion and analysis.
There are so many fascinating ways in which you can try to analyse it, find meaning in it, interpret it. From the title of this movie, to the different events that take place in it.
And to top this off, it was expertly made. Beautifully shot, produced, composed, acted out, the neat aspect ratio play throughout, the beautiful colours.
It was a treat, and I felt engaged throughout the entire thing and after it ended.
One of the better movies of the year so far.
