Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Jason M — 19 Jun 2017
For as well made and as tense as It Comes At Night is, there's also a certain familiarity to it, and an overly mysterious nature to it that feels less complex and more exploitive. But those things that really work in the film truly work.
Joel Edgerton delivers another powerful performance, the cinematography is eerie and lively, and there is a looming sense of dread from beginning to end. And I understand that the directors purpose was to leave the audience in the same isolation and confusion as the characters are in, but sometimes that works out and other times it doesn't.
Here it works in the middle. But this is a film that I think any film fan should see just to share their interpretation of it, and if those plot elements and ideas left open bother them.
