Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Serhiy K — 02 Sep 2017
A movie that's really hard to recommend to anybody. I like slow movies, that take time to build up, but this one is basically an even line punctuated by the protagonist's nightmares until the movie ends.
One can say that it's part of the movie's beauty, it'd very close to how it'd happen in real life, but, on the other hand, it lacks a punchline, a thing to round things up, it just ends and that's it.
What I liked about it is that it made you figure everything out for yourself without feeding you explanations. I've came up with one explanation that satisfies me and makes the film work -- it's in the title: what comes at night? Nightmares.
And that's what the movie's about -- the nightmare of paranoia, the nightmare of fear, the nightmare of death.
