Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Brady C — 08 Jun 2017
While other modern horror movies thrive off of the cheap jump scare or sudden loud noises and music, It Comes At Night decides to take another route. Schults builds a tense and uncomfortable interfamilial atmosphere inside the barely lit house, showing us that often, paranoia and fear turn man into the very monsters that he believes lurk in the woods.
In addition, spot on acting and an exceptionally fitting score provide all the more to the dreadful and desolate world. I must say, this is not a movie for everyone, rather it is intended for a very specific audience.
An audience that an understand the ambiguity and appreciate the art behind Schults directing and writing. I fear that others will overlook and belittle this movie simply because they did not find it scary, or they left the theater with more questions than answers.
