Review of It Chapter Two (2019) by Duckhost — 08 Sep 2019
Being honest, It was a surprise for me back in 2017. It was an honest and simple straight to the point adaptation of King's material, the casting really worked and the movie felt heartwarming and sweet and sadly this doesn't apply here.
Chapter two is a movie that doesn't understand the purpose of mistery. What I loved about it is that the new cast of the now adults loser club have chemistry and some of them have been in other movies together so that was a great decision by Warner Bros but thats it.
The story is what suffers the most, explaining what Pennywise is made of kills any lack of substance that the story had, the story feels very disjointed especially with the flashbacks and this movie retcons the first It for some reason and now the kids had, even more encounters with the dancing clown after the second act of the first movie which they never mention at all.
Also, there are some characters that don't have a purpose in the story Bowers is a great example, he is just an annoyance through the entire movie. Also the script inst very good, especially the dialogue.
Imprompt jokes are made, bad dialogue is delivered. In a nutshell Chapter One was a great surprise but Chapter Two can't set the bar higher than the first movie did, the best part was the cast but sometimes you shouldn't give the answer to your audience because life is better with a little bit of mistery.
