Review of It Came from Outer Space (1953) by Adam F — 08 Mar 2013
It gets points for being an atypical B-movie but it's still a B-movie. Most movies of this sort usually just show off as many special effects that they can then end with the aliens either being destroyed or resisted by the humans.
The aliens in this movie are actually 3-dimensional and the plot has a statement about the xenophobic nature of human beings, but is also optimistic about the future. There are few special effects in this movie which makes it much less showy but the strength really lies in the plot.
What FX they did use felt unnecessary and kinda cheap. Filmmakers should never forget that what we don't see is often scarier because the viewer's imagination will fill in the gaps and there are no technological or financial limits to what the mind can imagine.
