Honestly besides the opening sequence this movie simply isn't very scary. This is more of an R rated Goonies. If that sounds up your alley you'll probably love this movie. If you're a horror fan then this might leave a bit cold.
The kid actors are all great though even if there are too many of them. The film could have cut some of them out or been longer. I didn't really care about most of them and couldn't even tell you their names.
