Review of It (2017) by Riley B.f H — 12 Nov 2017
A faithful adaptation to Stephen King's novel, IT surprised me in that Pennywise the Dancing Clown was not the most intriguing character, but rather the Losers club as a collective, whose juvenile jokes help us to fall in love with all of them from the start.
Muschietti finds a great balance between horror and humor, striking a quick contrast to the sometimes scary experience of going through middle and high school, and truly reminds us of how much our own fears can cripple and control us as we go on with our life, and how it should never decide how our life is lived.
The CGI at times may seem excessive, however, these effects give us a good idea of how much of a disgusting and ruthless monster "it" can be. Pennywise may not receive the most screen time as his counterparts, but when he make his presence known, his actions, movements, and words are unsettling and create a feeling of prolonged discomfort.
Chapter one is great, and I hope chapter two can maintain the integrity of its predecessor; I have absolute faith it will.
