Review of It (2017) by Nedal S — 05 Nov 2017
It is certainly a disturbing watch, any peril to kids would do that if done at least halfway properly I suppose and "It" is more than competent. The kids feel real and act like middle schoolers instead of being fake like so many tv/movies seem to do. Pennywise is appropriately creepy as are the actions he takes. I can't call this movie really "scary" at all though I don't think that really detracts from the film. The atmosphere worked for me even so. What does for me is some of the second act where "It" seems to be about the spooky scenes but not moving the plot forward. That and one moment in the third act that was annoyingly fairy tale cliche and just got a quick sigh and eyeroll from me.
I hope the second film matches up, quality fims like this are real difficult to pull off (for me anyway).
