Review of It (2017) by Immanuel C — 07 Sep 2017
This movie has a whole lot of heart, a good storyline, and an amazing cast. I didn't think anything was overly done while I was watching it in the theater, but maybe I might change my mind when I watch it the second time around. Even the more cliché parts of the movie were executed well. In my opinion, this is one of the best modern horror movies that Hollywood has produced. Although the movie isn't very scary at all, it's not about monsters or ghosts (or, for that matter, a murderous clown); it's about the kids and their experiences of growing up in a town where it's easy to feel alone and isolated. In that sense, it's just as much a movie about growing up as it is a horror movie. I'd go as far as to say that I felt like I wasn't really watching a horror movie but was instead watching an adventure film like The Goonies. Dang it, now I want to go read the book! The kids get an A+ for their creative swearing.
Oh, and the projector scene was pretty cool . . . .
