In 2017, over 40 years after his first film adaptation, Stephen King had four works of fiction turned in to feature-length films. The most successful of those, IT, became one of the breakout financial success stories of the year.

Locking in the largest opening ever for a Fall release, and the 4th highest-grossing rated-R movie of all time, pulling in over $700 million worldwide on an estimated $35 million budget. There was a reason.

Not only was Pennywise's silver-screen debut a huge helping of chilling nightmare-fuel, but the story and screenplay had an almost Spielbergian flair. For those unfamiliar with the novel, or even the 1990 tv-movie, IT centers around a group of pre-teen outcasts dealing with issues even greater than murderous super-natural clowns.

The movie comments on bullying, abuse, and addiction all with great understanding. The young cast, led by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Jaden Lieberher (Midnight Special), are perfect embodiments of the roles created in the 1986 novel.

I am excited to see who they cast for chapter 2.
