Review of Isolation (2005) by David. B — 23 Nov 2007
A very atmospheric movie that moves at the pace of a dull ghost story. This Irish film is not a ghost story, but it gives us a mildly disturbing look at what genetic engineering on animals can lead to I guess. I loved the dark and moody atmosphere the script created and it some how felt familiar. The movie Alien came to mind a few times. There are no aliens in Isolation and Isolation is set on an Irish farm, but the suspensful directing by Billy O'Brien felt like Riddly Scotts classic. It starts off great with Olga trying to deliver a carf. It is a suspensful and exciting scene where she pulls her arm out in agony after cutting it on something inside the cow. The mystery unfolds as they realise there is something growing inside the cow. What could this be? From there the movie unfiold, but at that very slow ghost story pace where it goes no where really fast.
Isolation does look great and is directed well with mediocre actors, but due to it's slow pace it falls way short from being a classic.
Check it out if you are in the mood for a moody, atmospheric horror flick, but if your looking for a fierce creature flick like Aliens, skip this...
