Review of Isolation (2005) by Mark G — 23 Aug 2009
Watched this on the off-chance as part of Film 4's frightfest season, and was pleasantly surprised. Think Alien meets The Thing, and set it on an isolated farmhouse. 'Gritty' is a cliche when it comes to modern british horror, but there's a reason for that.
This film is no exception. No punches are pulled in terms of the bleak atmosphere and aesthetic, all industrial metallic greys and steaming red blood and entrails, and with its painfully labouring cows and inside-out genetically altered cowbaby freaks, this is not for the squeamish.
