Review of Isn't It Romantic (2019) by Compi24 — 02 Mar 2019
Yet another entry into the "I hit my head and now the whole world is different!" sub-genre, "Isn't It Romantic" aims to critique and take down the many tropes, cliches, and conveniences within the romantic comedy genre.
And, while it does a fairly successful job at doing this overall, none of the jokes themselves really dive deeper than the ones showcased in film's the trailer, leaving me feeling just a little disappointed.
Beyond this, you're given a narrative that's about as predictable as they come and a bunch of scenes that actually -- and unironically -- uphold several other undiscussed romantic comedy tropes. These things aside, though, Rebel Wilson certainly keeps you in your seat, and the film's tone overall is just quirky enough to make you feel like you're watching something different.
It's certainly not the searing satire it thinks it is, but it is worthy of a watch.
