Review of Isle of Dogs (2018) by Hayden P — 29 Apr 2018
2018 has become a year where the only dismal prospects in the film world have been predictable marketing ploys that masquerade as art. Isle of Dogs is thankfully not one of those films. What's really to say other than this movie is so close to perfect it's hard for me to point out any imperfections because the film would be incomplete without its quirks.
Here's what made this movie so incredible: the cinematography was purposely innovative that the times I had to blink were inconvenient given I did not want to look away for a single second, the plot was so heartfelt and relevant that even the most cynical viewer would be hard challenged to not be engrossed by the uplifting nuances, and finally the editing, tone, and pacing were masterfully accomplished to savant proportions of skill.
I am always pleased when my expectations as a viewer are surpassed and I expected nothing less from Wes Anderson. If you are looking for a film that isn't a massive, subsidized, paint by numbers, commercial, con devoid of any creativity Isle of Dogs is for you because it actually has deep feeling and love applied to it's every shot and line.
