Review of Isle of Dogs (2018) by Sean%20 L — 04 Oct 2018
Wes Anderson's newest masterpiece delivers and I am here for it! Isle of Dogs may not be up to par with his other works like "The Darjeeling Unlimited" or "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but it deserves to be in its own realm of classic Wes Anderson movies due to the impeccable eye for design that encapsulates the movie's overt aesthetic. Coupled with his iconic cinematography style and you have a movie that's uniquely Wes Anderson.
However, some points to note is the intention of portraying Japanese culture towards Americans in such way that it loses authenticity when shown to Japanese. Though, the intention of not adding English subtitles to Japanese dubbed sections of the movie may present itself as being in one with the Japanese and (in turn) be a way to improve its art authenticity among viewers of a certain calibre. It fails to deliver a sense of longing and impact of Japanese art and it's lifestyle. Though, I still stand my ground in saying it is a good watch that'll impress even the most avid cinemagoer!
