Review of Ishtar (1987) by Ben K — 28 Jul 2007
Perhaps the gigli of its generation, it killed the career of Elaine May. Despite Beatty's protestations to the contrary , this is not a funny film or a good one. And yet it should have been a lot better.
Maybe it was a lot to ask intelligent men like Hoffman and Beatty to play such talentless hacks. As musicians they make William Hung look like Elvis. Charles Grodin drifts through with an ocassional chuckle but this movie should be buried and never seen again.
