Review of Ishtar (1987) by Michael L — 19 Jan 2012
This movie was undeniably hilarious. Beatty and Hoffman are a classic comic duo. The movie basically consists of 2 parts. The first part focuses on the characters and their budding relationship as they attempt to become the next Simon and Garfunkle.
They are so passionate and serious, and they honestly believe that they're talented; but, the content and the delivery of the songs are idiotic and hysterical. The second part sees the duo take their act overseas where they get caught up in espionage and spy games.
It is the second part that seems to offput most critics. However, the hijinks that ensues is silly and side-splitting. "Telling the truth is serious business:" The "critics" got this one completely wrong.
