Review of Ishtar (1987) by Shawn W — 12 Oct 2008
Really odd one this, tainted by its legendary status as an awful and massively over-budget flop, this is actually not that bad - particularly compared to other 80s hits like Jewel of the Nile etc. Paul Williams original 'bad' songs are genius, especially 'Dangerous Business.
' It certainly falls apart in Morocco, and gets progressively worse, but keeps an endearing silliness that is reminiscent of the Hope/Crosby classics. Beatty and Hoffman are pretty good too, Adjani is totally wrong and the rest of the cast are worthless.
