Review of Ishqiya (2010) by Dinesh S — 14 Oct 2012
TIRED OF SHARBAT.....DON'T WORRY! TRY SOME JALJEEERA!! ISHQIYA, I can say, A desi adaptation of QUENTIN TARANTINO film-making..... It's not only the plot even the characters are impulsive and unpredictable, it ravels every layer by layer without wasting any precious time.
It has a very unconventional love story where a widow flirts.....oh sorry!! cons Uncle-nephew to execute her plan of finding her dead husband. Here Debutante Director ABHISHEK CHAUBEY understands the plight of widow in village who are actually denied an easy life hence isolated completely, so here Krishna (played by Vidya Balan) uses sexuality to con.
ABHISHEK CHAUBEY has reached the level where VISHAL BHARADWAJ didn't even reached, he deserves brownie point for handling such daringly different subject with dexterity. Music by VISHAL BHARADWAJ makes a superb impression by composing songs like ''Ibn-E-Batuta'' and soulful ''Dil To Bachcha Hai''.
VIDYA BALAN delivers a brilliant performance as the sexually liberated widow Krishna, she constructs the role so beautifully without taking any help from the script itself, ARSHAD WARSI & NASEERUDIN SHAH are just amazing and charming.
Arshad's modern way of love (lustful) and Naseerudin's old style of love are portrayed very well in the film. SALMAN SHAHID (seen as Talibani Terrorist in Yash Raj Films ''Kabul Express'') makes an undeniable impression as don Mushtaq.
Overall, ISHQIYA is a very sexy and delicious film. Since the film is year's 1st hit (Important criteria along with critical and audience acclaim), It should registered itself in all the category for next year's award function, IF NOT, BOLLYWOOD IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST LOSERS!!!! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!
