Told in a style similar to the much-better Memento, this French film follows Alex (Monica Bellucci), her boyfriend Marcus (real-life husband Vincent Cassel), and long-time friend Pierre (Albert Dupontel). The movie plays in a somewhat reverse chronological order - that is the end is at the beginning of the movie and the beginning is the final scene of the movie. The movie starts with Marcus on a stretcher and Pierre in cuffs, which happens as a result of them murdering a man they believe to be a rapist, which is prompted by them learning that someone they know had been raped, which is revealed to be Alex, who is shown in a nine-minute-scene being raped and beaten into a coma, which is shown as she leaves a party to go home, which is because Marcus is coked out of his mind, which is his way of celebrating that Alex is pregnant. Very disturbing and very dark, though the trio of leads capture the darkness and brutality very well. As mentioned earlier, for a much better story told through similar method, check out Christopher Nolan's (The Dark Knight) grand film Memento.

My rating: C / 2 stars.
